March 30th 2023
I have had my flat- an immaculately refurbished one bedroomed 2nd floor, not very special but servicable space in Pool. Redruth, Cornwall on the market since March 2022. Not a clever move as far as the property market/post Covid time was concerned. However, its proximity to educational and retail facilities opened the door of possibilities. And possibilities create dreams- a life style- investment- the future.
The punters came and went. Some with money. Some with dreams alone. Eventually, a property speculator turned up with all the right credentials, money, no mortgage and a keen eye on the main chance.
Great.
Wonderful.
My pension pot was gleaming enticingly at me and perhaps, finally as a single female of pensionable age I could throw the chalk back into the drawer, and close down the online google classroom.
And finally go back to my west country retreat. A retirement rainbow across a sandy beach.
Ah hah.
No deal
The legal processes
with Covid,
with raging inflation
with fuel, costs
gas, petrol and the state of the nation-
Guess what- no chance matee- stick to your day job
After 6 months of becoming the bendiest, most helpful vendor- yep you guesses it
Right on exchanging contracts day the buyer decides to pull out.
All searches paid for
All property management services sorted (and that was the stuff of a million nightmares I may add)
So if it appears that I am ranting- well yes I am and this will be sent to the Guardian too- I can't believe that I can be taken to the cleaners in this day and age without recompense for all that I have tried to do in accomodating th sale of my very small but perfectly designed flat.
My nest egg
My dream pension
My holidays in the sun
My sound investment as a single lady trying to do the right thing
How could this buyer treat anyone with such disdain
Such cruelty
Such a view to the jugular?
Well- as they say- I am still a women- of a certain age- of property!
Bitter sweet and perhaps not so ready to be an amenable member of the fair sex!!!
